Jess Fox and Hound The Dog Grocer: Our Eco Manifesto

As we’ve already covered in previous posts, dog ownership is, unfortunately, not always compatible with environmental friendliness (in fact, owning a medium sized dog has been estimated to have roughly the same environmental impact as owning a large SUV!).

However, we all know that we love our pets and that for many of us, life would be unbearable without our favourite hound by our side. That’s why at Jess Fox and Hound the Dog Grocer, we made the decision early on to focus our efforts on providing a route to dog ownership that doesn’t compromise care for the earth.

In order to do this, at the Dog Grocer, we make the following promises to you:

• To always prioritise buying pet products that are made from recycled, re-used materials, or which otherwise help you work towards a zero waste lifestyle. Where this isn’t possible, we will aim to minimise the waste that we accrue through our purchases.

• To work with pet product manufacturers to reduce the amount of waste in the production line, and to encourage the development of eco-friendly alternatives to current popular products.

• To act as a local circular economy hub for dog products, both by hosting Terracycle recycling boxes to recycle your collars, harnesses, leads and toys and through our Jess Lost and Found preloved rack.

• To educate you, and the wider dog owning community, about the positive steps you can take to develop a more eco friendly lifestyle for you and your dog.
